hearts and minds
“In Old English, the word ‘heart’ already had multiple meanings: breast, soul, spirit, will, desire, courage, mind and intellect (hence the phrase to learn ‘by heart’). Some think that mind is separate from the body and is called a soul. Some say that only reason and memory are part of the mind, because they are conscious. In this view emotions like love, hate, fear and joy are different from the mind. Artists say emotions are part of the heart. People often use mind to mean the same as thought: the way we talk to ourselves "inside our heads". We “make up our minds", "change our minds" and we’re in "two minds". So this collection of songs is both very public and private, from hearts and minds.
